The Angry Door
- Course: Physical Interaction Design and Realization
- University: KTH
- Year: 2020
The Angry Door is a concept developed and prototyped as final project of the Physical Interaction Design and Realization course at KTH in October 2020.
The theme of the project was "Locked up in physical space", it concerned various forms of "keys", as used for locks, doors, gates, and thresholds, for accessing physical as well as virtual spaces, things or features. We investigated the systems that delimit or enable movement, for opening, closing, entering, finding and hiding, exploring how these are shaped, interacted with, and experienced. Moreover, part of the requested study was on the interactions happening during the lockdown of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Angry Door represents a transition between mental states of stressed and frustrated people: it embraces the therapeutic value of the rage rooms and induces users to vent off their stress by hitting different points of the door with different heaviness. After having detected all the hits, the door will open to allow users to enter in a space dedicated to relaxation and meditation.
The project has been realized with an Arduino Nano 33 IoT and different materials to model the punch surface.
